Course Description

There are many occupations in which your appearance simply does not matter. Millions of people work remotely from their homes, or in offices where they are guaranteed to never see a customer. In these environments there is a strong argument to be made that professional attire is simply unnecessary. But law enforcement is not one of those professions.

In law enforcement, citizens look to you for help in their time of need and your appearance sends a message about your professionalism and legitimacy. When encountering difficult people in volatile situations, gaining voluntary compliance begins with the ethical appeal that is rooted in your professional appearance and speech. Furthermore, your appearance should clearly communicate that you are, in fact, a police officer rather than a random sloppily dressed person with a firearm.

In this two hour webinar, Chief Harry P. Dolan (ret.) will discuss the importance of professional appearance of law enforcement officers as a vital part of effective communication and maintaining public trust.
